Wild Moor

Wild Moor sprawls across open moorland just outside Shrewsbury, offering proper walking country if you know what you're doing. It's not a manicured visitor attraction with tea rooms and interpretive boards - this is genuine upland terrain where the landscape does the talking. You get wide views across Shropshire, grass underfoot that can turn boggy depending on recent weather, and the kind of isolation that makes you feel properly away from things even though you're barely half an hour from town.

Seriously keen walkers will get the most from Wild Moor. It rewards exploration, and the moorland reveals itself gradually as you move across it rather than delivering one knockout vista. Not ideal if you want a quick thirty-minute circuit or photo stop. Children might find it a bit bare and featureless after the first fifteen minutes unless they're the type who enjoy scrambling and spotting wildlife.

Bring proper footwear - the ground can be treacherous after rain. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you want to see what the place has to offer. There's no infrastructure that we can find, so pack what you need.

As a detour during a park holiday based at Small Batch Camp Site or Mountain Edge, it works well on a clear day when you want to stretch your legs properly. The moorland walking here pairs nicely with Shropshire's other outdoor spaces if you're building a week around the local parks.
