The seafront at Whitehead stretches out like a proper Victorian seaside walk should - nothing fancy, just good honest prom with the sea doing most of the talking. You get decent views across the water and the kind of windswept charm that makes you understand why people holiday here rather than fly off somewhere warmer.

It's the sort of place where you can burn twenty minutes or two hours depending on your mood. Local walkers seem to treat it as part of a longer coastal route, which makes sense - you're not going to spend an entire afternoon just staring at railings. The air's fresh enough to blow away whatever nonsense you've brought from the city, and if you time it right around low tide there's foreshore to explore.

Walkers will get the most from Whitehead because it connects into the broader Mid and East Antrim coastline - treat it as a stopping point rather than a destination on its own. Families with younger kids might find it a bit thin on distractions, though there's usually an ice cream van somewhere and paddling in season. History types should know this was once a proper Victorian resort with more going on, but those days have passed.

Down to Earth Wild Camping sits just 4.5 miles away and makes a solid base for exploring the Larne area. The promenade itself is free and there's no time pressure - turn up whenever, walk as long as you fancy. Best done on a clear day when you can actually see where you're looking.
