Whitecraig Road Park

The woodland trails at Whitecraig Road Park offer proper woodland walking without the fuss of driving halfway across Perthshire. It's a nature reserve on the edge of Perth, and you're in among beech and oak within minutes of leaving the town centre, which is the whole appeal.

The paths wind through decent-sized trees, and if you time it right - late spring through early autumn - you'll spot woodland birds and the occasional roe deer slipping between the undergrowth. It's not dramatic scenery. No lochs, no mountains. What it is, though, is a clean, straightforward woodland walk that's genuinely quiet most days. You can do a gentle loop in under an hour, or potter about for longer if you're the type who stops to look at things.
