Wether Hill

The walk up Wether Hill from Auchterarder is straightforward enough, but the views across Perthshire make it genuinely worthwhile. On a clear day you can see right across to the Highland hills - proper panoramic stuff. It's not a massive undertaking; most people will manage it in under two hours there and back, though the final push gets a bit steep.

This is one for walkers rather than casual strollers. You won't find a café or visitor centre at the top, just open moorland and the satisfaction of being somewhere high enough to see half the region. Kids who are into hiking will enjoy it, but don't expect facilities or drama - it's pure hill walking.

Go midweek if you can. Weekends bring crowds from Perth and beyond, and the parking situation at the start gets tight. Spring and early summer are best; winter can make the upper sections boggy and miserable. Allow two to three hours if you're not a regular hill person.
