Wether Hill

The walk up Wether Hill from Hawes takes about ninety minutes if you're not rushing, and the effort pays off with proper Wensleydale views. It's a modest peak by fell standards - only 1,993 feet - but that's rather the point. You're not scrambling over rock or slogging up endless moorland; instead it's a steady climb through dry stone wall country with the valley unrolling behind you as you gain height.

Wether Hill works best for people who want to tick a peak without the drama of something like Pen-y-ghent or Whernside, both of which dominate the Three Peaks circuit. If you're based at Hawes Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite - and it's a solid spot - this makes a half-day outing. Families with capable walkers aged ten and up will manage it fine. Bring a packed lunch and sit on top if the weather holds; it's the kind of place where an hour with a thermos feels like time well spent, not wasted time.
