Wether Fell Side

The walk up Wether Fell Side from Hawes is a proper leg-stretcher, rewarding you with views that stretch across Wensleydale and beyond. It's not a dramatic summit - the fell tops out at 1,993 feet - but the ascent is steady and genuine, taking most walkers between two and three hours depending on fitness and how often you stop to catch your breath.

You'll pass through open moorland with the occasional stone wall to navigate, and the landscape shifts noticeably as you climb. On a clear day the views are genuinely worth the effort; you can see right down the dale towards Leyburn and across to the higher peaks beyond. On a grey one, it's a bit moody but still atmospheric.

This is really one for walkers rather than casual visitors. Families with older kids who don't mind a proper hike will manage fine, but there's nothing here for those wanting a quick stroll with a café at the end. Allow a full morning or afternoon, bring good boots and a weather eye on the forecast - the moorland offers no shelter whatsoever.

It fits nicely into a walking holiday around Hawes. The Hawes Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite sits just under two miles away, making it ideal as a base for tackling this and other Wensleydale walks.
