West Gormack

West Gormack is a Bronze Age cairn sitting on moorland above Blairgowrie, and it's the sort of place that rewards a bit of effort without demanding the earth. The stone circle and burial mound aren't immediately obvious from a distance - you have to walk out onto the hills to properly appreciate what you're looking at, which means most casual visitors miss it entirely.

What you'll find is a modest but genuine piece of prehistoric Scotland. The cairn itself is substantial enough to photograph, and the views across Perthshire from up here are proper lovely, especially on a clear day. It's not Stonehenge, and no one's arguing it is. But if you're into archaeology or simply enjoy moorland walks with a bit of historical weight to them, it's worth the trip.

Walkers will get the most from this one. Allow an hour for the walk and a good look around. There's no visitor centre, no facilities, no admission charge - just you, the stones, and the landscape. It's accessible enough for most fitness levels, though the path can be boggy in wet weather.

If you're staying at Blairgowrie Holiday Park or Corriefodly, both just a couple of miles away, West Gormack makes a solid morning outing. It pairs well with exploring the Tay Valley, and the location between Blairgowrie and the wider Tayside countryside means you can easily combine it with other walks or visits in the area.
