Wern-gogas Covert

The forest at Wern-gogas Covert is proper woodland - dense enough that you feel properly removed from the world, but not so wild that you'll get lost trying to find your way back to the car. It's the sort of place where the light filters through in that particular way that makes you remember why you bothered leaving the caravan.

There's no visitor centre or café, which means it's refreshingly free of the usual holiday park nonsense. You just walk in and wander. The paths are reasonably maintained, muddy after rain but nothing that'll stop you. Children tend to get on well here - there's enough space to let them run about, and the undergrowth feels adventurous without being genuinely dangerous.

Allow a couple of hours if you're taking it slowly, less if you're just after a quick stretch. The whole thing works best as a morning walk before the weather turns - and on Anglesey, it always does eventually.

It slots nicely into a holiday based at any of the nearby parks like Anglesey Holiday Pods or Black Horse Glamping. You're only minutes from Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, though let's be honest, you're here for the forest, not the village. Pair it with coastal walks elsewhere on the island and you've got a solid day sorted. Worth a detour if you're the walking type; less essential if you're after proper attractions with facilities.
