Wells Golf Club sits on the edge of Somerset's cathedral city, a proper 18-hole course that punches well above its weight for a market town venue. The layout winds through tree-lined fairways with decent elevation changes - nothing punishing, but enough to keep you thinking about your shots rather than just hammering it down the middle. Views across the surrounding countryside are genuinely lovely, especially from the higher holes.

It's a members' club primarily, so you'll need to arrange a game in advance through their website or get invited by someone who plays there. Green fees are reasonable if you can sort it, and it's the kind of course where a decent golfer will shoot their handicap without too much drama. Expect to spend four hours on the course, maybe a touch more if you're unlucky with pace ahead.

Golfers camping at Cathedral View Glamping or Wells Touring Park are barely ten minutes away - handy if you're basing yourselves nearby for a Mendips break. The course itself won't set your pulse racing like somewhere in Scotland might, but it's a solid, well-maintained track that slots nicely into a Somerset holiday. If you're not a golfer, though, there's frankly nothing here to detain you. The cathedral and the Bishop's Palace in Wells town centre are far better uses of your time. Worth booking ahead rather than turning up on spec.
