Waverly Park [Formerly Ribbleton Park]

The park itself is a decent patch of green space just outside Preston, renamed Waverly Park after its days as Ribbleton Park. It's the kind of local spot where you won't fight crowds on a Saturday afternoon - families kick about, dog walkers do their rounds, and there's enough open grass to let kids burn some energy without feeling hemmed in.

What you get is straightforward: open parkland, some woodland bits, and paths that won't test your fitness too hard. It's not dramatic or particularly memorable - more of a functional green space than a destination in itself. The walk round takes maybe 45 minutes if you're not in a rush, or you can just pitch up on the grass with a coffee and call it done.

This is family territory, really. Young kids will appreciate the space to run about, and older ones won't complain if the weather's decent. Walkers will find it pleasant enough for a loop before heading into Preston proper. History buffs won't find much to dig into.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Brylea, Wigwam Holidays at Kidsnape Farm, or Beacon Fell View - it's worth knowing about as an easy morning's activity before heading elsewhere. Don't build a day around it, but as part of a Preston-area holiday, it fills a gap without fuss. Free to visit, open whenever, no faff. That's the appeal.
