Wassand Park

Wassand Park is a working nature reserve just outside Hull where you can actually see what conservation looks like on the ground. It's not a manicured visitor attraction - it's a genuine habitat managed for wildlife, with trails that wind through woodland and open spaces where you might spot everything from common birds to deer if you're quiet enough.

The reserve works well for a couple of hours if you're serious about birdwatching or photography. Casual walkers might find it a bit understated after an hour. There's something satisfying about the lack of crowds, though - you won't be queuing or dodging school groups. The trails are straightforward enough, nothing steep or technical, so families with younger kids can manage it without drama.

It sits perfectly alongside the nearby holiday parks - Goxhill Meadows Eco Friendly Glamping Site is barely a mile away, and several others like WoodLake and The Paddock Pods at Homeland are within a short drive. If you're based at one of those for a week, Wassand gives you a proper outdoor morning without needing to venture far from camp.

Best visited during spring and early summer when bird activity peaks. Check locally before you go as opening hours and facilities aren't always clearly signposted online. It's the sort of place you come to slow down rather than tick off a list.
