Walsingham Greyfriars (remains)

What's left of Walsingham Greyfriars is honestly quite modest - a few stone fragments and earthwork traces of what was once a significant Franciscan monastery. You're looking at ruins that date back to the 13th century, dissolved like so many others during Henry VIII's break with Rome. The site sits just outside Fakenham, and unless you're properly into medieval archaeology or making a pilgrimage to Walsingham itself, you'll want to manage expectations.

The actual experience is brief. There's no visitor centre, no interpretation boards worth mentioning, just the landscape and your imagination doing the heavy lifting. History buffs will find something to gnaw on - the layout tells a story if you know what you're looking for - but families with restless kids will likely lose them after twenty minutes. It's the sort of place that rewards a slow wander rather than a rushed visit.

Fakenham sits bang in the middle of Norfolk's caravan and glamping options, so you could easily loop this into a broader holiday exploring the region. North Norfolk Glamping and Norfolk Coast Caravans are both within a few miles, making it a worthwhile detour while staying put at one of the parks. Timing doesn't really matter - the site is open air and free - so visit early morning or late afternoon when you've got the place to yourself. Don't come expecting Rievaulx Abbey.
