Waden Hill

The walk up Waden Hill is proper steep, and you'll know about it by the time you reach the summit. It's one of those chalk hills that dominates the landscape around Marlborough - nothing fancy, just a straightforward climb through downland with views that stretch for miles once you've earned them. On a clear day you can see right across Wiltshire from up there, and frankly it's worth the huffing and puffing.

This isn't a destination that'll keep you occupied for hours. You're looking at maybe an hour and a half return if you take your time, less if you're a seasoned hill walker. Families with teenagers will manage it fine; younger kids might find the gradient tedious. Walkers absolutely love it though - it's the kind of no-nonsense chalk downland walk that gets you moving without any faffing about.

The hill is free to access and there are no formal opening hours since you're just walking on open access land. Go in the late afternoon when the light turns golden and the crowds thin out. Early autumn is cracking - warm enough to move quickly but cool enough that you won't overheat.

If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Honey Bee or Hillview Park, Waden Hill is ideal for a half-day outing. It slots perfectly into a wider Wiltshire walking holiday around Marlborough, working well with visits to the Marlborough Downs. Bit steep for what it is, but that's rather the point of a proper hill walk.
