Viewpoint Skye Bridge

The view from here of the Skye Bridge itself is what makes this stop worthwhile - watching that elegant curve of concrete and steel rise up from the water is genuinely striking, especially when light hits it right. The structure spans the narrows between Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye, and from this vantage point you get the scale of it properly. It's free to visit and takes maybe ten minutes unless you're the type who stays to photograph it for half an hour.

Walkers will find it a straightforward pull off the road, though there's not a vast amount to do once you've had a look and taken your pictures. Families with young kids might spend five minutes here on their way to Skye rather than making it a destination in its own right. The Highland weather being what it is, you'll want decent visibility - on a grey day it's just a bridge disappearing into cloud.

If you're based at Reraig Caravan & Camping Skye, this is only a few miles away and makes a sensible photo stop before or after a proper walk in that part of Skye. Combine it with something more substantial rather than treating it as the main event. The real appeal is that it's perfectly placed if you're transit-ing between the mainland and the island anyway, and the engineering is impressive enough to warrant a proper look when you're passing through Kyle of Lochalsh.
