View Rock

The walk up to View Rock from Strathpeffer takes about twenty minutes if you're reasonably fit, though the final push gets properly steep. What you get for the effort is a commanding vantage point across the Strathpeffer valley - on a clear day you're looking out over moorland and distant hills that genuinely justify the climb. It's not a dramatic summit or anything, just a rocky outcrop with a proper view, which is rather the point.

This one's best for walkers who appreciate a straightforward leg-stretcher without needing a dramatic destination. History buffs won't find much here - it's about the landscape, not the stories. Kids will manage the walk fine but might find twenty minutes of "are we there yet" tedious, especially if the weather's turned.

Free to visit, no facilities at the top, so bring water. The path's reasonably clear but can be boggy in wet weather. Allow an hour return trip if you're taking your time and want to sit around at the top. Early morning gives you the best light and fewer midges.

If you're based at Highland Heights Luxury Glamping just down the road, this makes a cracking half-day outing to shake off the travel. Dingwall site's a bit further but still within reach for a morning walk. The view itself isn't Instagram-famous but it's genuine - no crowds, no gift shop, just the Highlands doing what they do best.
