The water here sits remarkably still most days, reflecting the surrounding hills in that peculiar way Scottish reservoirs do - grey-green and serious-looking, even when the sun's out. Upper Glendevon is a working reservoir that doesn't shout about itself, which is precisely why it's worth the drive from Auchterarder if you're after genuine peace rather than a postcard moment.

It's fundamentally a walker's destination. The shoreline offers decent paths without requiring fell-running fitness, and the views across the water toward the Ochil Hills sharpen as you climb slightly. Most people allow two to three hours here - enough for a proper walk without feeling rushed. There's a car park at the north end, which is the main access point; facilities are minimal, so bring water and a packed lunch if you're planning to stay.

Families with older children will manage the terrain fine. Younger kids might find the walk a bit long unless they're keen types. Keen birdwatchers occasionally clock interesting species here, though it's not a dedicated nature reserve. The reservoir's industrial purpose means it never feels quite as peaceful as a natural loch, but that's not really the point - it's honest landscape without the tourist machinery.
