Unleashed Dundee

There's a dog statue on the Dundee waterfront that's become rather famous in recent years - Unleashed Dundee, a bronze sculpture that captures something playful about the city's relationship with man's best friend. It's the sort of thing you might pass by without a second glance if you weren't looking for it, but once you know it's there, it's absolutely worth a wander down to see.

The sculpture itself is engaging enough - detailed work that shows some proper craftsmanship. What makes it genuinely worth your time is the location. You're right on the Tay, with views across to Fife and the bridges beyond. It's a natural stopping point on a riverside walk rather than a destination in itself, which is precisely how to treat it.

Dog owners will obviously get a kick out of it, but honestly it works for anyone after a bit of public art with character. The nearest town is Tayport, just a few miles away, and if you're staying at either Tayport Links Caravan Park or Larick Campsite - both cracking spots with excellent ratings - this is an easy afternoon outing. Allow twenty minutes to see the statue properly and take a few photos, then extend it into a longer walk along the waterfront. Free to visit, naturally.

Go in decent weather. The Scottish wind can be sharp here, and the whole experience is rather flat without decent light on the water. It's the kind of thing that feels like a proper local secret, even though it's getting busier each year.
