Twisted Barrel Brewery and Tap House

The smell hits you first when you walk into Twisted Barrel's tap house - proper malty, with that unmistakable yeast-and-hops warmth that tells you this is a working brewery, not some corporate chain. Located just outside Coventry, it's the real deal: a place where the brewers actually work and the beer comes straight from the tanks rather than a lorry.

You're looking at a casual setup with plenty of wood and steel, the kind of space that feels lived-in. They've got their own brews on tap and usually a rotating selection of guest beers. The staff know what they're talking about, which makes a difference when you're trying to work out the difference between their IPAs and their darker stuff. It's free to walk in and have a look around, though obviously you're there to drink something.

Family groups are fine during the day - kids can come along while you grab a pint - but evenings tend to fill up with the serious beer crowd. Allow an hour if you're just stopping by, longer if you want to eat (they've usually got food on). The tap house does occasional events, so worth checking their website before heading over.

If you're camped at Hollyfast Caravan Park or Avon Wild Camping, both under five miles away, this makes an easy evening trip. It's not a tourist trap, which is honestly its best feature. Just solid, unpretentious brewing.
