Turtle Hill Coppice

A modest woodland tucked between Kenilworth and the surrounding Warwickshire countryside, Turtle Hill Coppice is the sort of place you'd stumble upon rather than plan for. It's an old coppiced woodland - meaning the trees have been traditionally managed and harvested for centuries - which gives the place a particular character you won't find in modern plantations. The walks here are gentle and undemanding, threading through mature woodland with occasional clearings where light actually reaches the forest floor.

This isn't a destination on its own. It's a bolt-on. If you're based at Mousley House Farm or one of the other nearby parks, it's worth a quick morning ramble before heading elsewhere. Families with younger kids might manage half an hour before boredom sets in; serious walkers will appreciate the quiet and the history baked into the management of the trees themselves. There's something rather English about walking through coppiced woodland - it connects you to centuries of land use without any of the heritage centre faffing about.

I'd allow an hour if you're actually exploring properly rather than just cutting through. Spring is best - bluebells often appear in coppiced woodlands, and the new growth transforms the whole place. No facilities to speak of, so sort yourself out before you arrive. It's free access, as far as I can tell, though local knowledge suggests parking requires some nous.

Pair it with Warwick Racecourse Caravan and Motorhome Club if you're after a proper countryside base with actual facilities, then use the coppice for a morning constitutional.
