Tully Law Wood

Head south from Leven and you'll find Tully Law Wood, a proper woodland walk that doesn't pretend to be anything grander than it is. It's a genuine bit of Fife forest - the kind of place where you can actually hear the birds without coach parties drowning them out.

The main draw is a straightforward woodland trail through mature trees with a few gentle slopes that reward you with decent views across the surrounding countryside. It's the sort of place where you can spend an hour wandering without needing a map or worrying about getting hopelessly lost. Families with kids in the six-to-twelve range will find it engaging enough for a morning ramble, though teenagers might find it a touch dull. Serious hikers won't be challenged, but that's rather the point.

What makes it work is the lack of fuss. There's no visitor centre, no café trying to sell you a £4 coffee, just trees and paths. Free to access, and you can do a decent circuit in about ninety minutes without rushing. Spring's probably the best bet if you like bluebells and new growth; autumn's decent too when the light filters through differently.

If you're staying at Elie Holiday Park just down the road, this gives you a solid half-day option on a quieter day. It's not the sort of place you'll plan a trip around, but as a local knowledge stop when you're based nearby, it absolutely works. Better than another afternoon pottering around shops in Leven town centre.
