Trosley Country Park

The chalk escarpment rises steeply from the village of Ightham, and Trosley Country Park sits right at the heart of it - a proper network of woodland trails and open grassland that feels far more rural than its proximity to Sevenoaks might suggest. You're looking at roughly 145 acres of managed countryside where the walking is genuinely pleasant, with enough elevation to make your legs work but nothing that'll leave you gasping. The views across the Weald are worth stopping for, especially if you time it right on a clear day.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's the kind of place you can't dash through in twenty minutes - allow two hours minimum if you want to properly explore the main trails without feeling rushed. Families with older kids who can handle moderate gradients will do well here. Younger ones might find it a bit samey after the first hour unless you're committed to the full circuit. The woodland sections offer decent shade in summer, which is something.

Admission is free, which is genuinely generous for what's on offer. Spring and early autumn are when it looks its best - the woodland floor is less muddy than winter, and you're not fighting crowds. It works brilliantly as a walking base if you're staying at Gatehouse Wood or Badgells Wood nearby, both within a couple of miles. You could easily pair it with a morning walk and still have afternoon time for the holiday parks themselves or heading into Sevenoaks proper. Solid half-day activity rather than an all-dayer, but the trails are well-maintained and genuinely pleasant underfoot.
