Troisgeach

The walk up Troisgeach is a proper slog, but worth it if you're after serious Highland views without needing a full alpinist's skill set. This peak sits just outside Arrochar in the Scottish Lowlands, commanding views across the Loch Lomond area that genuinely justify the effort on a clear day. The route itself is straightforward enough - no scrambling required - but it's steep in places and the ground can be boggy lower down. Allow three to four hours for a return trip depending on fitness.

You'll want to go early or midweek if possible. Summer weekends see this route rammed with day-trippers from Glasgow. The view across Loch Lomond and towards Ben Lomond is the main draw here - it's the sort of vista that makes you understand why people hike in Scotland rather than somewhere flatter. On a poor visibility day though, frankly, you're hiking in cloud. Check the forecast first.

Families with confident walkers will manage it fine. Young kids under eight might find the relentless gradient tedious. The local Beinglas Campsite sits just two miles away, making this an excellent half-day hike if you're basing yourself there for a longer park holiday. It's the sort of walk that feels like proper accomplishment without consuming your entire day - grab lunch in Arrochar afterwards.
