Tri-Bench

A converted barn space just outside Lincoln that's become something of a talking point among the contemporary art crowd. Tri-Bench is small - you won't need more than an hour here, really - but it punches above its weight when it comes to interesting installations and rotating exhibitions. The sort of place where you might stumble across work by emerging artists or experimental pieces that wouldn't necessarily make it into the bigger regional galleries.

The venue itself is the attraction as much as what's on the walls. Those exposed beams and the sheer scale of the barn create a proper backdrop for whatever's being shown. It works well for art types and anyone curious about what's happening beyond the mainstream gallery circuit. If you're camping at Seven Acre Farm or Shortferry Caravan Park nearby, it's genuinely worth the short trip into the countryside.

Word of warning though - opening hours and admission details aren't readily available online, so you'll need to check ahead before making the journey. Don't just turn up expecting it to be open. That said, if you're base camp is Hanworth Country Park or Langdale Lakes and you've got a day when the weather's dodgy, this could easily kill an hour or so. It's the kind of place that keeps you on your toes artistically without demanding a major expedition.
