Treyhill Moor Plantation

Walking into Treyhill Moor Plantation feels like stepping into proper woodland - tall conifers, soft ground underfoot, and enough quiet to actually hear yourself think. It's a forest rather than a manicured park, which means it's genuinely atmospheric but also genuine in the sense that paths can be a bit muddy and there's not much in the way of facilities.

The plantation sits a short drive from Bideford, making it an easy half-day escape if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Owl Valley Glamping or Braddicks Holiday Park are both within easy reach. It's the sort of place walkers will appreciate more than casual strollers. You're looking at a decent woodland walk through mixed forest, ideal for clearing your head rather than ticking off a sightseeing box.

Kids will manage fine for an hour or so if they're into exploring and climbing fallen logs, but there's no playground, café, or anything designed to keep under-tens entertained for a full afternoon. Bring wellies if it's been wet - the woodland floor drains poorly in places. Allow a couple of hours if you want to walk properly rather than just have a wander.

It's free to access, which is the main thing in its favour. Not a destination by itself, but absolutely worth combining with other North Devon attractions or as a morning walk before heading into Bideford for lunch. The forest does what it does - provides shelter and green space without any pretence.
