Trailers

There's a rather curious collection of vintage trailers tucked near Chertsey that catches plenty of people off-guard. These aren't museum pieces behind velvet ropes - they're actual caravans and mobile homes from different eras, each one telling a small story about how British holidaymakers lived on the road decades ago.

What you're looking at is basically a snapshot of caravan culture frozen in time. The trailers range from proper retro models with their distinctive curved bodies and chrome trim to slightly more modern rigs, all arranged in a way that lets you wander around and peek inside. Some still have their original interiors - Formica tables, narrow bunks, vintage gas cookers - which feels oddly intimate. Kids find the whole thing daft and brilliant in equal measure; adults tend to get a bit nostalgic.

The reality though: opening hours aren't widely published, and you'll need to check locally before making the trip. It's the sort of place that works best as a quick stop rather than a main event. Twenty minutes is probably enough unless you're genuinely fascinated by caravan history, which, fair play, some people absolutely are.

If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Penton Park, Laleham Camping Club, or Chertsey Caravan Park are all within walking distance - it's a fun bit of local character. Otherwise, it's more of a curiosity than a reason to make the journey. Worth a look if you're already in Chertsey though.
