Traeth Llansteffan Beach

The sweep of sand at Llansteffan is one of those Welsh beaches that catches you off guard - proper golden when the light's right, backed by the ruins of a medieval castle perched on the headland. It's a decent stretch of strand, good for a proper walk at low tide when you can head out towards the estuary mouth where the River Taf meets the sea.

Families will find it manageable enough. There's a car park right by the village, and the beach itself is accessible without a brutal scramble. Kids can paddle, build castles, hunt for shells. The ruins of Llansteffan Castle are worth a poke about if you've got a bit of energy left - nothing fancy, but the views back towards Carmarthen Bay aren't bad, and it breaks up a day that might otherwise feel a bit flat.

The real appeal here is its lack of fuss. You won't find arcades or amusement parks. It's old-school Wales - a village beach where locals actually come, not a destination manufactured for tourism. The tidal range is substantial, so timing matters. Check the tides before you go - low tide opens up proper walking routes along the sand.

If you're based at one of the caravan parks nearby - Sunrise Bay is just up the road, or Laugharne View if you want to be slightly away from it - this works as a morning activity before heading inland towards Carmarthen. It's not a full day's entertainment, but as part of a coastal park holiday it's well worth the short drive.
