Towthorpe Corner

A simple pull-off spot near Brough where you can actually stop and eat without feeling rushed. Towthorpe Corner is what it says on the tin - a proper picnic site with enough space to park up and stretch your legs along the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. Nothing fancy, but that's rather the point.

The main draw is the location itself. You're out of the car, breathing proper countryside air, with rolling hills around you and the kind of quiet that makes city ears ring a bit. It's the sort of place where families with younger kids can let them burn off steam without worrying about traffic, and walkers often use it as a starting point for exploring the local bridleways. On a decent day the views across the Wolds justify stopping here rather than pressing on.

For the practicalities - it's free, obviously, and you can stay as long as you fancy. Twenty minutes for a quick break, or a couple of hours if you've brought a proper picnic and want to make an afternoon of it. Early morning or late afternoon tend to be quietest, particularly on weekends.
