Drewton's Farm Shop

The farm shop sits just outside Brough, doing what proper farm shops do best - stocking the sort of stuff you actually want to eat. There's no faffing about here; it's local produce, decent meat from animals raised on the farm, and vegetables that haven't travelled halfway round the world to sit under fluorescent lights.

It's the kind of place where you'll recognise the farmer's name on the label because he's probably still out in the fields somewhere. The range varies by season, which keeps regulars coming back - spring brings tender greens, autumn fills the shelves with squash and root veg. The meat counter is where things get interesting; they'll tell you exactly how the animals were raised if you ask, which beats a barcode any day.

Not a destination on its own, frankly. You're not driving an hour to look at vegetables. But if you're camped at William's Den just down the road, or bunking in at Little Wold Away or Willow Pond for a few days, it's exactly the sort of stop that makes a caravan holiday better. Grab proper ingredients and cook something decent rather than relying on the campsite café. Half an hour max, unless you're the type who reads every label and chats to the staff.

Best on a weekday morning when it's not rammed. Weekends bring the weekend warriors who've suddenly discovered the farm-to-table thing. Go early, get your shopping, get on with exploring the rest of East Yorkshire.
