Top Lake sits just outside Horsham in Surrey, a proper water-filled reservoir that draws walkers, dog-owners, and the occasional angler looking for a bit of peace. It's not dramatic - no white-water rafting or lakeside theme parks here - but that's rather the point. You get a decent circular walk around the water, trees backing onto the bank, and on a clear day you can clock the South Downs in the distance if you squint right. Families with toddlers will manage the walk fine - it's not strenuous - though there's not much to keep under-fives entertained beyond "look, ducks". Walkers and dog owners will get proper value out of it, especially if you're camped at one of the nearby sites like Riverside Farm or Sussex Topiary just a couple of miles off. Fishermen might find it worthwhile depending on permissions, but that's worth checking locally.

Allow a solid hour for a loop if you're in no rush, longer if you settle on a bench. The best time is early morning or late afternoon when the place is quieter and the light is doing something interesting. Free to access, far as I can tell - you just turn up. It's the kind of stop that slots nicely into a broader day exploring the Horsham area and the parks nearby, not a destination in itself, but genuinely pleasant when you're passing through.
