Tomibeg

Tomibeg isn't one for the guidebook crowds. This modest peak sits in the Scottish Lowlands near Stirling, and the walk up takes you through proper countryside that feels a world away from Glasgow, despite being fairly close. The summit itself rewards you with decent views across the surrounding moorland - nothing jaw-dropping, but the kind of vantage point that makes sense once you're up there.

It's walkers' terrain rather than a destination for a casual stroll. You'll need an hour or so for the ascent depending on your fitness, and the paths aren't always obvious, so an OS map or downloaded route is essential. There's no visitor infrastructure - no cafe, no interpretation boards, just the hill itself. That's either brilliant or a letdown depending on your mood.

Families with young children will find it a bit punishing for the payoff. Serious hikers doing the rounds of Scottish peaks will get something out of it. History buffs won't find much here beyond the landscape itself.

The nearby holiday parks make it work as part of a bigger trip. The WHW Hotel & Campsite is closest at 2.5 miles away, while Duncan Family Farms and Loch Lomond Sunset Glamping Pod both sit around 5-6 miles off - still close enough to base yourself there and make Tomibeg a morning's expedition. Spring and autumn are your best bets for visibility and drier ground.
