Tom Burt's Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination with facilities, Tom Burt's Wood sits just outside Marlow and delivers exactly what you'd want from a patch of Chilterns forest - quiet paths, tall trees, and room to breathe. The wood is managed by Chiltern Rangers, and it shows. The trails wind through mixed woodland with decent views across the valley if you pick your route carefully. You're looking at anything from a quick half-hour potter to a longer loop depending on which direction you head.

This is walkers' territory, frankly. Families with young kids might find it a bit samey after thirty minutes unless they're the type to stop and turn over logs looking for beetles. Dog owners will have a field day - plenty of space to let them off lead and no crowds to worry about. Spring is genuinely lovely here when the bluebells are out, though autumn when the light cuts through the canopy at an angle is equally good.

There's no café, no visitor centre, no postcard shop. Bring water, wear proper shoes because it gets muddy, and don't expect the sort of structured experience you'd get at a country estate. What you do get is woodland as it should be - undeveloped and genuine. From Marlow itself it's a short drive, making it a sensible add-on if you're based at one of the nearby camping spots like Hurley Riverside Park or Home Farm, both within striking distance. Free to access, no time limit, just don't expect signage to be brilliant.
