Toad on Lilypad Sculpture

Down by Conwy's waterfront, there's a bronze toad perched on a lilypad that stops people in their tracks. It's whimsical without being saccharine - just a proper bit of public art that catches the light nicely and gives you reason to pause while wandering the town's riverside walk.

The sculpture itself isn't a massive undertaking. You're looking at maybe ten minutes here, fifteen if you're the type who likes to circle round and photograph it from different angles. It works as a photo stop rather than a destination in itself. Kids tend to find it amusing, though it won't occupy them for long.

What makes it worthwhile is the location. Conwy's a town worth exploring anyway - the castle dominates, the high street has proper character, and the waterfront's genuinely pleasant. The toad fits naturally into a morning wandering the place, not something you'd drive over from Rhyl specifically to see, but absolutely worth a look if you're based at Golden Sands or any of the nearby parks.

The thing about Conwy is it doesn't try too hard. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop attached to this sculpture. It's just there, doing its job quietly. That's rather refreshing, if I'm honest. Admission's free obviously - it's public art. Best visited when the light's decent, which in North Wales means catching it on one of the less grey days.
