Three Brick Arches

Three simple arches of weathered brick stand alone in the Norfolk countryside east of Fakenham, all that remains of what was once a railway viaduct. They're not grand or particularly tall, but there's something oddly compelling about them - three perfect geometric shapes emerging from the flat landscape with no other structure in sight.

You won't spend hours here. Ten minutes, maybe fifteen if you're the type to circle around and photograph them from different angles. What makes them worth a detour is their sheer strangeness: Victorian engineering stranded in the middle of nowhere, a tangible reminder that this part of Norfolk once had proper rail connections. The arches are free to visit, always accessible, and require no booking.

Walkers get the most from this one. The location makes sense as a stop on a longer route across the Norfolk flatlands rather than a destination in itself. Bring a camera if you're interested in industrial heritage or just like oddball roadside finds. Kids might find them interesting for five minutes before asking if there's anything else to do.

The glamping spots further out at Wild Meadow or Old Brick Kilns are within reasonable driving distance too. This isn't a major attraction, but it's the sort of thing that makes a holiday in rural Norfolk feel like proper discovery rather than ticking off a list.
