Thorley Park

The reserve spreads across woodland and open ground where you might spot woodland birds, small mammals if you're lucky, and seasonal wildflowers that make spring visits genuinely worthwhile.

History buffs might appreciate that you're treading old ground - the area has been part of Sawbridgeworth's green space for decades. Families with young children will find it fine for an hour or so, though there's no playground or facilities to speak of, so come prepared.

The beauty here is that it connects naturally with a broader Hertfordshire walking route if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks. Toad Abode, just four miles away and highly rated, makes an excellent base for exploring these quieter corners. The Wild Retreat at Redricks Lake, a touch further out, gives you even more countryside options in the area.
