The Wave Waterpark

The Wave is Coventry's answer to a proper day out without leaving the city. It's a waterpark that delivers exactly what you'd expect - slides, pools, and enough chlorine to strip your sinuses. The main draw is the wave pool itself, which generates artificial breakers every few minutes. Kids absolutely lose their minds in there, thrashing about like they've discovered the seaside for the first time. Beyond the waves, there's a lazy river for those who prefer floating about doing nothing, plus the usual suspects: flume rides, splash zones for littler ones, and standard pools for actual swimming if you can be bothered.

It works brilliantly as a halfway point in a park holiday centred around Coventry. Hit Hollyfast Caravan Park or Avon Wild Camping as your base - both within five minutes' drive - then spend a morning or afternoon here when the weather turns dodgy or everyone needs a change of pace. The flume rides keep teenagers entertained, toddlers have their own shallow areas, and parents can actually sit down on a lounger without guilt.

Families get the most out of it, obviously. Solo travellers would find it a bit pointless, and if you're a serious swimmer training lengths, you'll be frustrated by the chaos. Bring a packed lunch if you can - waterpark cafes charge like they've got a captive audience, which, frankly, they do. Peak times are school holidays and weekends, so go midweek if you value your sanity.
