The Triangle

The Triangle sits just outside Bude and is one of those reserves where you genuinely feel like you've found something locals know about rather than tourists tramping through. It's a modest nature reserve, but don't let that put you off - the habitat here is proper interesting, with wetland and grassland that actually supports some decent birdwatching if you know when to go.

Walking the paths feels unrushed, which is the whole point. You're looking at maybe an hour here, perhaps ninety minutes if you're serious about spotting species or just sitting still for a bit. It's the sort of place that rewards patience rather than pace. Spring and autumn bring the most activity, though winter visitors come through too.

This works brilliantly as a half-day addition to a park holiday. Wooda Farm is genuinely excellent if you're after a quality base - it's only 1.5 miles away - and Atlantic Surf Pods gives you that pod glamping thing if you're into that. You could easily combine The Triangle with exploring Bude itself, which has the beaches and the canal to keep you occupied.

Families with young kids might find it a touch quiet after the first loop, but anyone who enjoys a peaceful walk and doesn't need facilities or structured activities will rate it. Bring binoculars if you've got them. Waterproof shoes aren't a bad shout either, depending on recent weather.
