The Pools

The Pools is a proper woodland walk through forest just a few miles outside Rugby, where you can actually get a sense of Warwickshire's quieter side. It's the kind of place locals know about - not splashed across tourist boards, which means you won't be shoulder-to-shoulder with day-trippers on a Saturday afternoon.

The main draw is exactly what the name suggests: a series of water features winding through the trees. They're not dramatic or Instagram-worthy, but there's something genuinely peaceful about them. The walk loops through mature woodland, and depending on the season you might catch anything from bluebells to decent birdsong. Bring binoculars if you're into that sort of thing.

It's ideal if you're camping at one of the nearby sites - Eriba Glade is less than four miles away, and Meadow Field Glamping a bit further - and you want an hour or two away from the van without driving anywhere. Families with primary school age kids will get a decent stretch of fresh air here, though it's not thrilling enough to hold teenagers' attention for long. Walkers and nature types will find it worthwhile, especially if you're already in the area exploring other Warwickshire spots.

Access appears to be free, though details are sparse online. Allow a solid hour for the full loop, longer if you dawdle. Muddy after rain - proper Midlands mud, not the polite kind - so waterproof boots are essential. Go early on weekends if you value peace and quiet.
