The Point at Polzeath

The Point at Polzeath is a proper sports and leisure facility right on the north Cornwall coast, a few miles from Roserrow. It's the kind of place that makes sense if you're staying nearby - whether you want to actually do something active or just grab a coffee and watch other people do the hard graft.

The venue centres on water sports. This is serious stuff: surfing lessons, paddleboarding, kayaking. If you've got kids who are past the sandcastle stage, they can get proper instruction rather than just paddling about. There's also a gym and fitness classes if the weather turns grim, which - let's be honest - it does in Cornwall roughly twice a week.

You don't need to be a thrill-seeker to enjoy it. The cafe area is decent enough for a bite between activities, and the views across the beach are the real draw on a clear day. Allow a couple of hours if you're just visiting; a full day if you're doing lessons or classes.

If you're based at St Minver Holiday Park or Porthilly Beach Holiday Park, both within easy driving distance, this works well as a structured activity when the coastal walks get repetitive. Admission's free to browse and use the cafe - lessons and classes cost extra, naturally. Peak season brings crowds, so mornings are smarter. Off-season it's quieter but some facilities might be reduced.
