The Light

The Light in Addlestone is a proper community theatre - the kind of place that gets locals through its doors for pantomimes, musicals, and drama productions rather than West End spectaculars. It's a working venue with a decent-sized auditorium, and the programming leans towards family-friendly fare and amateur dramatic societies doing their thing, which means you get genuine enthusiasm rather than slick professionalism. That's not a criticism, incidentally. There's something rather lovely about catching a local production where people actually care about what they're doing.

You'll want to check their website for what's on - the schedule changes season to season, so there's no point rocking up on spec. Ticket prices are reasonable, nothing extortionate, and the venue is easy enough to find just outside Addlestone town centre. Allow a couple of hours if you're catching a show, including a bit of pre-show browsing.

It works well as an evening activity if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Weybridge Park Estates is practically on the doorstep at less than a mile away, and Chertsey Camping and Caravanning Club Site is just over a mile off. After a day walking around the Surrey countryside or exploring Chertsey, a theatrical evening rounds things out nicely. The whole area is decent for family holidays, with enough riverside walks and local attractions to fill a week without breaking a sweat. The Light fills a gap for rainy afternoons or when you fancy something indoors.
