The Legend

The Legend is a gallery tucked away in the Suffolk countryside near Bury Saint Edmunds, and it's one of those places that rewards a bit of effort to track down. Contemporary art's the focus here - the kind of work that makes you either nod thoughtfully or scratch your head, depending on your tolerance for the avant-garde. The space itself has that slightly rough-around-the-edges feel that independent galleries often do, which is either refreshingly honest or a bit underwhelming depending on what you're after.

It's really a spot for serious art types rather than casual browsers. You won't spend hours here unless there's a particular exhibition pulling you in. The nearest town, Bury Saint Edmunds, is close enough that you could combine a visit with a proper wander around the abbey ruins or a coffee in the market square, which makes for a more rounded afternoon.

If you're based at any of the caravan parks in the area - The Four Bells Glamping or Kings Forest are reasonably nearby - it's worth checking what's on before you pitch up. Opening hours and admission fees aren't widely publicised, so ringing ahead or checking their socials is essential. Don't turn up on spec. That said, if there's an exhibition that catches your eye, the journey out to this corner of Suffolk could well be time spent properly.
