It's the remains of a substantial medieval kitchen building - Tudor-era mostly - where hundreds of meals were prepared for the castle's residents and visitors. What you're looking at is essentially the bones of a working kitchen from the 1500s: stone walls, vast fireplaces, and enough space to understand that feeding a castle was serious business.

It's not a flashy attraction. There's no reconstruction, no actors in period dress. You're reading plaques and using your imagination, which honestly works better for most adults than you'd expect. The proximity to Kenilworth itself - the castle proper is right there - means you can spend an hour or so here without it feeling like a wasted detour. Families with children under ten might find it a bit sparse; older kids interested in medieval life will get more from it.

The real benefit is context. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - Mousley House Farm is closest at just over four miles away - you can combine this with the main castle ruins and spend a proper day exploring Kenilworth's medieval past. It fills gaps that the castle alone leaves. Free access, as far as I'm aware, though ring ahead to check current arrangements. Allow 30-45 minutes here; longer if you're the type to sit on the grass and soak it in.
