The Headless Goose

The Headless Goose showcases rotating exhibitions of modern and contemporary work, with a particular focus on local Somerset artists alongside established names from further afield.

Inside the converted Victorian building, you'll typically find two or three exhibitions running simultaneously across several bright, well-lit rooms. The curation tends toward the thoughtful rather than the shocking, despite what that macabre moniker might suggest. Previous shows have ranged from landscape photography capturing the Mendip Hills to abstract sculptures that wouldn't look out of place in a London gallery.

This is very much one for adults with a genuine interest in art - kids will likely be restless within twenty minutes. The intimate scale means you can see everything properly in about an hour, making it a lovely cultural stop during a Somerset break. Gallery staff are usually knowledgeable about the current exhibitions and happy to chat about the pieces on display.
