About The Grove
It's the kind of place that rewards a slow wander rather than a circuit-tick. Families with young kids will find it manageable enough for a couple of hours without the forest feeling endless or intimidating. The woodland floor is relatively even underfoot, though after rain it can get boggy in patches. Dog walkers absolutely love it here, and you'll regularly see couples just sitting on whatever fallen logs are available, doing nothing much at all.
Historically it's got some depth - the woodland's been here a long time and holds its own in the landscape between Oxford and the surrounding farmland. There's a real sense of place without any of that overworked heritage interpretation nonsense.
Camping nearby at Weston Caravan and Campsite or Greenhill Leisure Park gives you easy access without needing to trek into Oxford itself. Fair warning though: there's no cafe or facilities inside the woodland, so come prepared. Best visited in autumn when the light filters through differently, or spring when the woodland floor comes alive. Summer can feel a bit enclosed and buggy.
