The Classroom

Standing on the clifftops near Three Cliffs Bay, this distinctive rock formation gets its name from the layered limestone that looks remarkably like rows of classroom desks. The Classroom is part of the dramatic Gower coastline, where geological forces have carved the headland into these regular, stepped formations that catch the light beautifully on a clear day.

Walkers tackling the Wales Coast Path will spot it easily - the rock layers are so uniform they genuinely do resemble tiered seating. It's a proper photographer's delight, especially when the afternoon sun hits those limestone shelves just right. The view extends across the bay towards Oxwich, with the sweeping sands below creating a lovely contrast to the angular rock face.

Families staying at nearby Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park or Oxwich Camping Park will find this a rewarding short walk, though the clifftop path can be a bit exposed on windy days. Children find the name amusing and it's easy enough to spot without needing a geology degree. Allow about 20 minutes to appreciate it properly - longer if you're planning to photograph those famous layers. The surrounding coastal walk towards Pennard Burrows makes it well worth combining with a longer ramble along this stunning stretch of the Gower Peninsula.
