About The Carrach
Walkers with decent fitness will enjoy this one. It's not technical climbing, just sustained uphill graft through open country, which means the wind can bite hard even in summer. Allow three to four hours return depending on your pace and which route you take - there's more than one way up. The landscape changes as you gain height: you start in scrubland, move through heather moorland, then finish on bare mountain. That progression is worth the effort.
There's no visitor centre, no facilities, no charge. This is proper wild country. Bring a map, decent boots, and weather-appropriate kit. Blairgowrie itself is handy for supplies and a post-hike meal.
If you're based at Nethercraig Holiday Park just outside town, The Carrach makes an excellent half-day or full-day outing alongside easier woodland walks in the area. It's not for those after summits with views of the sea - this is inland, serious walking territory.
