The BIG Sheep

You can't miss it driving through Bideford - a colossal sheep looming over the North Devon landscape like some sort of woolly colossus. The BIG Sheep is exactly what it sounds: a massive roadside attraction that's become something of a local landmark, the kind of thing you either find brilliantly daft or genuinely charming, depending on your mood.

It's the sort of place that works best if you're not taking yourself too seriously. Families with younger kids tend to get a proper kick out of it - there's something inherently funny about stopping the car for a photo with an enormous fiberglass sheep. Adults often find themselves grinning despite themselves. You're looking at maybe fifteen minutes here, tops, unless you're the type who likes to circle round it from different angles hunting for the perfect Instagram shot.

The real appeal is that it marks the transition into Devon's gentler holiday zone. If you're based at Owl Valley Glamping or Broad Park just down the road, it's a handy visual reference point and a bit of a talking point with the kids. Not worth a special journey, but if you're passing through Bideford anyway - and you likely will be if you're heading to the coast - swing by.

Free to gawp at from the road, naturally. It's the kind of wonderfully pointless British roadside oddity that makes the journey as memorable as the destination.
