About Ten End
Walkers and fell-baggers will get the most from this one. It's not technically difficult, more a steady grind uphill, so families with older children or reasonably fit adults will manage without drama. Skip it in poor visibility though; the moorland can be featureless in mist and there's little to see when clouds roll in.
Allow three to four hours including a stop at the top. The ground underfoot varies - some good paths, some boggy sections after rain - so proper boots matter more than technical gear. There's no café at the summit, so bring your own supplies.
If you're based at Hawes Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Stablefell Holidays just down the road, this makes a solid half-day outing before heading into Hawes town centre for lunch. It's not the most spectacular peak in the Dales, but it's accessible and the effort-to-reward ratio works well for a morning's walk.
