Walk into Cardigan's town centre and you'll spot the remains of what was once a proper medieval fortification - Teifi Gate, a 13th-century defensive structure that guarded the crossing over the River Teifi. It's not dramatic ruins or anything; more a substantial stone remnant that speaks to Cardigan's importance as a Norman stronghold. The gate itself is right there on the high street, impossible to miss, and it tells you everything about how seriously they took river control back in the day.
