Teglease Down

The walk up Teglease Down rewards you with proper Hampshire countryside views - rolling chalk downland that feels a world away from Waterlooville's sprawl below. It's not dramatic or showy, but that's rather the point. You get genuine South Downs territory without the crowds that swamp places further east, and on a clear day you can see well beyond your immediate surrounds.

The route itself is straightforward enough for families with decent walkers, though the gradient catches people out sometimes. Allow 90 minutes return if you're taking photos and stopping to breathe. Locals tend to come here mid-week to avoid the weekend car park chaos, which tells you something useful. There's no cafe at the top, so bring supplies if you're planning to linger.

If you're based at Glamping at Wallops Wood or Cedar Valley, this works as an easy morning sortie before heading elsewhere. The nearby Woodlands Camping is about six miles south, which puts you on the fringe of decent walking country generally. This particular summit won't consume your whole day, but it's the kind of place that makes you remember why you came to Hampshire rather than Kent or Sussex - less famous, less fussed over, genuinely quiet on most days.

Worth doing if you're in the area staying put for a few days. Less compelling if you're passing through on a park-hopping holiday.
