Taylored Equestrian

A working equestrian centre that doubles as a nature reserve in the rolling countryside between Shrewsbury and the Powys hills. Taylored Equestrian is genuinely one for the horse crowd - whether you're riding, taking a lesson, or just keen to watch and wander the grounds. The reserve itself offers proper walking country with decent views across Mid Wales farmland, and it's the sort of place where you'll actually see horses being worked rather than standing about in fields looking bored.

The main draw here is combining a bit of activity with your holiday. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Cranberry Moss, Royal Hill, or Seven Oaks are all within an easy drive - and someone in your group rides, you can arrange lessons or hacks. Even non-riders get value: the woodland and grassland walking is gentle enough for families, though it's not going to blow your mind if you're after dramatic scenery. Reckon on two hours maximum if you're just walking through.

What makes it work is the lack of crowds. You won't find the tourist bustle here that you get at some equestrian venues closer to major cities. It's proper working landscape, which means it changes seasonally and isn't geared up as a spectator attraction. Free access for walkers as far as I can tell, though checking ahead about riding sessions and any seasonal closures makes sense. Best visited autumn or spring when the ground's decent and you're not melting. Kids who like horses will get something from it; those who don't will tolerate it for an hour, no more.
